چکیده
We report on observations of the neutron star (NS) residing in the low-mass X-ray binary 1RXS J180408.934205 taken 2015 March by NuSTAR and XMM-Newton while the source was in the hard spectral state. We find multiple reflection features (Fe Kα detected with NuSTAR; N VII, O VII, and O VIII detected in the RGS) from different ionization zones. Through joint fits using the self consistent relativistic reflection model RELXILL, we determine the inner radius to be ≤ 11.1Rg. For a 1.4 M⊙ NS with a spin of a∗ = 0, this is an inner disk radius of ≤ 22.2 km. We find the inclination of the system to be between 18-29. If the disk is truncated at a radius greater than the neutron star radius, it could be truncated by a boundary layer on the neutron star surface. It is also possible that the disk is truncated at the magnetospheric radius; conservative estimates would then imply B ≤ (0.3 − 1.0) × 10 G at the magnetic poles, though coherent pulsations have not been detected and the source is not identified as a pulsar.

An XMM-Newton and NuSTAR Study of IGR J18214-1318: A Non-pulsating High-mass X-Ray Binary with a Neutron Star
IGR J18214-1318, a Galactic source discovered by the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory, is a high-mass X-ray binary (HMXB) with a supergiant O-type stellar donor. We report on the XMM-Newton and NuSTAR observations that were undertaken to determine the nature of the compact object in this system. This source exhibits high levels of aperiodic variability, but no periodic pulsations...
متن کاملConstraining the neutron star equation of state using XMM - Newton
We have identified three possible ways in which future XMM-Newton observations can provide significant constraints on the equation of state of neutron stars. First, using a long observation of the neutron star X-ray transient Cen X–4 in quiescence one can use the RGS spectrum to constrain the interstellar extinction to the source. This removes this parameter from the X-ray spectral fitting of t...

We present broadband, multi-epoch X-ray spectroscopy of the pulsating ultra-luminous X-ray source (ULX) in NGC 5907. Simultaneous XMM-Newton and NuSTAR data from 2014 are best described by a multicolor blackbody model with a temperature gradient as a function of accretion disk radius significantly flatter than expected for a standard thin accretion disk ( μ T r r p ( ) , with = p 0.608 0.012 )....
متن کاملXMM-Newton Detection of Pulsations and a Spectral Feature in the X-ray Emission of the Isolated Neutron Star 1RXS
We report on the results of a deep XMM-Newton observation of RBS 1774, the most recent dim isolated neutron star candidate found in the ROSAT archive data. Spectral and timing analysis of the high-quality PN and MOS data confirm the association of this source with an isolated neutron star. The spectrum is thermal and blackbody-like, and there is evidence at a significance level > 4σ that the so...
متن کامل1 Xmm-newton Results on the Ultracompact Low Mass X–ray Binary 4u 1850-087 in the Globular Cluster Ngc 6712
We report on preliminary results from our XMM-Newton observation of the Low Mass X-ray Binary 4U 1850-087, located in the galactic globular cluster NGC 6712. It is an ultracompact binary system, with an orbital period of 20.6 min. In previous low-resolution X-ray observations 4U 1850-087 displayed a soft excess residual around 0.7 keV, possibly indicative of the presence of a high Ne/O ratio, a...
